I couldnt get a real good shot due to poor lighting and an unsteady hand but here are 2 pics of this engine getting ready to pull at the big 4 yard in Russell.Yardmaster there cautioned me about taking photographs in the yard.Said if any supervisors where there that they would get on my case.There is some video but I need to edit it first.It will be on another post later.

Here are a couple of pictures of the engine involved in the accidental death of an 84 year old former railroad employee who was struck on Sunday morning Feb 21.This is followed by a video of the train coupling up at 2nd st.A passing grain train is also shown.

While waiting for a train to come out of Fork Creek,4 trains passed.I was only able to catch 2 of them as I had my camera set on picture mode.The first video is cut short as the battery went dead.DUH!

11/8/2009 H873 with crippled Engines and a passing Empty Hopper Train

The train was coming out of John Amos with something wrong with the traction motors.Light engines had to come from Russell for the trip to Peach Creek. While this train was moving past Ventroux road by Scary Creek,an empty hopper train came flying by.

Here is the H873 taking a train from Fork Creek mine to John Amos.Train goes into emergency when the green signal drops from green to red right before the engine gets to it.Shortly it starts again on its way.

Haunted Railroad Crossing In Texas

I have heard of this place many times but this is the first time I have seen it in action. I dont normally put my weird hobbies over here on the railroad blog but this one is indirectly related to the rairoad. Here is what is posted in the comment section of this poster.

This video was recorded on October 20, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. We heard the stories about these railraod tracks located on Shane Road where a train struck a school bus during the 1940s and killed the bus driver and all children on the bus.

We decided to do some investigation on our on, and to our amazement we actually found some shocking evidence. The car did indeed go up the hill and over the tracks with the ignition turned off even. We even tried it with the car going backwards and it still worked. We even noticed very apparent fingerprints on the trunk of the car after pouring baby powder on it and going over the tracks. We even caught some pretty clear EVP's towards the end of the video right before we left.

Left Dickinson yard at 8:30 am with 24 cars and a NS 9095 in the lead. I left the video run a bit longer after the train had passed to show the conductor restoring the switches. Watch as he is throwing the main line switch as a dog comes out on him. More bark than bite,as the owner says, but still gives an example of what the crews have to endure out on the road.

Here is 2 videos of the W047 weed sprayer train as it backs out onto the main then leaves Handley for Huntington.

This is a coal train passing through Chelyan. If I had left the camera running I would have caught the sprayer about 2 minutes later.As it was I had gone into a store to get a soda when the sprayer came by.

Another 381 today.27 cars being pulled by NS 665 SD60. There was a delay in leaving Dickinson as 2 sets of brake shoes had to be replaced on the engine.

Took the H873 crew to Handley today to put on a train of 100 empties for Toms Fork.The train later derailed on Cabin Creek at the Ronda crossing. The first 2 clips are a little out of focus.

This train surprised me coming out of the siding at Handley. Didnt know there was a crew on it waiting for the traffic to pass.An empty drag of apparently new tubs heading east to Hinton.

Here the V366 is re-crewed by the H873 which takes the train on east.

St Albans shifter H872 is highlighted on this day along with a passing empty drag at South Charleston Yard.As an extra bonus there are a couple of shots inside the John Amos power plant.I was also experimenting with a different bit rate on these videos from what I usually do to see how it looks. I was also fiddling with the sound which didnt turn out too well. Comments are welcome.

This first vid is showing the coal pile at the John Amos plant. It is the largest I ever seen there.This represents a 56 day supply of coal. They are shooting for and maintaining a 70 day supply.

This last video in the plant is driving between the loaded train waiting to be dumped on the right and the H870's empty train getting ready to pull out of the plant on the left.

Was up at Scary crossing today dropping off the H064 crew. With all the rain we have had here in the last few days it has caused a very large rock to come loose. Currently it is being held back by a telephone pole as you see in the video.Not sure what they are going to do about it.
